Physiotherapy can be defined as a treatment method that helps people to restore, maintain and maximize their movement, function, and overall well-being by addressing the underlying physical issues and affectively treating pain.
Physiotherapists are involved in rehabilitation, injury prevention and optimizing health and fitness through focusing on the science of movement, exercise, manual therapy, education and advice. The profession employs a holistic approach to treatment, looking at the patient’s lifestyle and engaging with patients of all ages to enable, develop and encourage pain free, healthy and independent lives.
A qualified physiotherapist is a trained medical practitioner, registered at the HPCSA and can be seen directly with no need of a referral by a doctor. The Physiotherapist is part of the multi-disciplinary medical team, working within the private practice and hospital environment.
